I found that in every man I could possibly love, there was a fault in his manhood
Only to realize I was comparing him to my father
Nobody was him, but nobody could ever be him
But I looked for men that were like him
I found healing when the Holy Spirit checked me saying
"Your mom didn't save him, he didn't save himself.....Jesus saved him! So stop thinking you can save these bad boys..and they will become your knight!"
An honest revelation to the characteristics of what I wanted in a man
To my daddy, I'm sorry if I disappointed you
Acted as if I didn't have an example of a father
And dated the outdated you
Or what I thought could be you
Challenged by the world to what I thought I knew
What I thought I could do
What I thought I should prove
I gathered all my truths
Found that I inherited my fathers talent
The art of words, commanding attention, speaking, preaching, and reaching.....
The love in it's pursuit
Finding we are not defined by our roots
Two generations trickled down
His past could never be crowned
The streets gives you a name
And you love the sound
But baby girl's do something to the heart.
You think about your life and where it has you at
Who am I?
Who will I become?
Will she love me?
Am I my father's son?
Am I a product of what I've done?
Do I lead in love or do I run?
I imagine this was my daddy at 23
Fast forward, 3 girls later and he played for keeps
I was born with the blood from a G.
With much admiration, came much expectation
But my daddy pulled thru without hesitation
He never craved the attention
Or cared for the mention
With every curse came it's blessing
He took life by it's horns and said "You won't forget me!"
I heard someone say "gangsters don't change.."
But I beg to differ
Because his always been real
But real comes from God
So it's genuine.
My daddy is a man of honor.
"To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever...."-Revelation 5:13
My daddy is a man of wisdom.
"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom." -Proverbs 11:12
My daddy is faithful.
"Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." -Psalm 23:6
My daddy is devoted.
"Let your heart therefore be wholly devoted to the Lord our God, to walk in His statues and to keep His commandments, as at this day." 1 Kings 8:61
My daddy is obedient.
"Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart." -Psalm 119:34
And my daddy is humble.
"Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind." -1 Peter 3:8
Do you see the example set?
What sets the boys from the men?
What makes him different from the rest
"Bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh"
I admire my daddy and nothing less
Standing on big shoulders, filling out the gaps in press
But never to impress
Only to love Jesus as He loved the rest
Humble beginnings always in reflect
Like King David he is a man after God's own heart
Holding accountability on his part
Holding up his family in his arms
And Holding on to God's word
Character is a trait God builds
My daddy is a product of God's word being instilled
And in a sense
My father's, father who art in heaven
is the reason I am so blessed
To the man, who takes my hand
I could never expect you to fill these shoes
But only to love me as my father's father who art in heaven does too
Too the lessons that brought me thru
and the process of what we've come thru
"Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure--pressed down, shaken together and running over. For with the standard of measurement you use, it will be measure to you......" -Luke 6:38
With every measure, I thank God for you
For always pushing thru
Waking up to provide
Everything God given, and you abide
Responding to responsibility
And the more life you have to endeavor
One thing remains, that
I am a daddy's girl.........forever.
